This steadfast little machine, always ready to melt and temper my chocolate at a moment’s notice, woke up on Thursday morning, coughed, and crawled back under the covers. I nudged it gently, reminding it that we had a job to do and people we couldn’t disappoint, so it tried. It gave a feeble spin, registered 135 degrees fahrenheit (when it could have been no more than 70) and squeaked in distress. After much rending of garments and pulling of hair, I got it together and called the company. They’re sending a new part, which should arrive on Monday and fix the problem. Maybe. They think. They’re pretty sure.

Since pretty sure doesn’t buy cream and butter, I’ve got to re-assess my Valentine’s promises to you. I’m melting and tempering the chocolate by hand, which takes about twice as long, so I really can’t promise that your package is going to arrive before the 14th if you haven’t already ordered. This doesn’t mean the orders are closed, just that I can make no guarantees. You will still get a bright and shiny Valentine’s wrapped package full of very fresh chocolates, all verrry hand-made, it just might arrive on Monday the 15th. Or Tuesday the 16th. Love needs no holiday, right?

Just in time for a certain Cupid-themed holiday, I’ve got new flavors to share:

Ginger Pomelo truffle – white chocolate ganache infused with ginger and pomelo juice, studded with candied ginger and topped with candied pomelo peel, enrobed in white chocolate

Candied Cherry cordial – tart cherries, candied in almond syrup and enveloped in almond fondant, in a dark chocolate shell

Orange Pistachio nougat – fluffy nougat, full of fat green pistachios and mandarin oranges, fully enrobed in milk chocolate

Give them to a friend, give them to your mom, heck, give them to yourself! Who better to love this year than you, right? If you’ll write “Valentine’s Gift” (or something like that) in the special instructions, I’ll give your order the full lovey-dovey treatment, complete with card, red hearts and a special embossed box. And you don’t have to order the Valentine’s flavors to get this gift wrapping, any order will do.

Since the 14th is on a Sunday this year, delivery on the day is sort of out of the question. But if you order by the 8th, Priority Mail will get it there on time. If you have last minute requests, email me, and we’ll see what we can do!

My thoughts have been turning to all of you, and how truly thankful I am for the opportunity to serve you. In a world where so many people are unable to do what they love, I feel so very fortunate to be able to walk into my kitchen every day and let my creativity take the reins. For that fantastic gift, I must thank all of you who buy my chocolate, who ask for it in the retail locations, and who share it with your friends and family. You guys are awesome! So, to say thank you, from now until December 29, I’ll be adding in a special little gift to all of your orders.
